Spring State of Mind

February 11, 2014

We're almost two weeks into February and with the second blast of winter storms in the south, there's still snow on the ground (with more snow anticipated...ugh). However, if you venture into any local clothing retailer, the bright florals and vibrant pastels say "SPRING!" In a way, this is both annoying (I won't even start with the bikinis being out already) and somewhat hopeful at the same time. It's like a light at the end of the metaphorical snow tunnel. It's a reminder that spring and the warmer days it brings with it must eventually come.

Until then, I'm just stuck trying to get into a spring state of mind because if I can emulate spring in my wardrobe, that means it's coming sooner - right?! Right.

This "shoot" was one of my quickest because of how cold it was and by the end, my ungloved hands were red and unfeeling. Goodness. My main challenge in this outfit, was about how to combine the different elements from spring and winter attire. I dug out a floral blouse I bought at Old Navy early last fall. It's a pretty versatile blouse that can transcend seasons with it's semi-sheer material. I paired the blouse with an easy loose-fitting gray tank top and dark cuffed skinny jeans. I also decided to wear my favorite neutral booties (also from Old Navy) that I feel are pretty trans-seasonal as well. To make this outfit a bit more wearable for the weather I finally got to wear this soft blue jersey scarf that was the right combination of light-weight and warm.

I kept jewelry to a minimum, but loved that I found this fun blue tear-drop ring to accompany my look. It packed just enough of a punch on it's own that I decided not to take away from it with daintier rings.

Oh, and I'm really into braids right now. I've been wearing some version of this messy side braid for the past couple of days. I read an article about "cool girl hair" recently and it was right up my alley because it was all about not caring an exorbitant amount about your hair style. Haha. It was filled with ombre, messy buns, and beautifully undone braids. There's something really feminine and easy going about a braid and maybe that why I like wearing them so much. I could go on and on, but to put it mildly, the braid is here to stay.

Make-up wise I kept it very simple, minus my ungodly sparkly bubblegum pink lips. Usually, I'm not a fan of wearing this particular shade of pink, but there's a time and a place. Bright pink lips reminded me of spring and I couldn't help but feel a little brighter and girlier. You can find that particular lip pencil here in Bare Blush.

So, tell me, how are you getting into a spring state of mind? What spring trends are you excited to try/are really loving right now? I'd love to know!
