#ashleegoesonanadventure pt. 1

July 11, 2014

I set up the intro to this post a few weeks ago and you can read it HERE so you'll have a better idea of what's behind these posts!

I'm horrified that I haven't gotten these pictures up sooner, but better late than never right? Plus, this is fun for me because I get to vicariously relive the trip as I go. Sometimes I really hate travel posts, so I'll try to keep this short and sweet.

The first three days were days spent mostly in the car.

Day 1: After the first 7hrs, we stopped to visit family in Illinois for a night. They put us up in their idyllic little town full of houses that are 80+ years old. We visited with our extended family and got to have a good old fashion fish fry, followed by one of the best cakes I may hava had in my life (which I totally stole the recipe for!).

Day 2: We got back on the road bright and early. Mid-day we stopped at a gas station that happened to have a legitimate chocolate store inside it. I got some peanut butter fudge for the road and read Palo Alto by James Franco on my phone to pass the time. That night we stopped in Toledo, OH and got a motel. We decided to go to the Casino for dinner and a little gambling. It was my first time at a casino and I got the full experience. The food was amazing, I won ten dollars, and enjoyed a few really delicious gin and tonics!

Day 3: We finally arrived in New York midday and decided to stop in Buffalo to see Niagra Falls! It was a beautiful view. If we ever go again we fully intend on taking the boat ride to get up close to the falls. We had lunch at a nearby restaurant and got back on the road until we finally arrived at our destination further upstate.

Day 4: We got settled in near the army base, I got a manicure, and then we began apartment hunting for my cousin. That day on a high note. We discovered an ice-cream place called 'Way Cool' and just had to stop. It was great call. I got to enjoy a Peanut Butter Caramel Cookie Dough cone. I was in complete heaven!

  1. Aren't Niagra Falls beautiful? I love doing "Lady of the Mist" where you get to wear ugly garbage bag ponchos and go near the falls on a boat. So worth it!
